Global Carbon Tax

Global Visions > Global Carbon Tax

Global Visions has become increasingly interested in exploring the idea of a Global Carbon Tax. In the past, we have hosted panels on other global reforms such as a Global Basic Income. More recently, we held a panel, Confronting Climate Change, exploring potential solutions and future visions for a just and sustainable world. As the climate emergency deepens, we have turned our attention to concrete measures that could be implemented before new technologies are ready to scale. For this reason our next panel will discuss the potential of a Global Carbon Tax.

Many countries already have some form of carbon tax, but could such a measure work on a global level? What would be the challenges, and what potential could it hold for addressing climate change? We are also interested in how a global carbon tax might be designed to benefit Global South countries, for example through rebates or revenue-sharing mechanisms that would help fund climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
